Sick and Homebound
The Lord Jesus, who went about doing good works and healing sickness and infirmity of every kind, commanded his disciples to care for the sick, to pray for them, and to lay hands on them.
St. Mary’s Church continues this command through our Ministry to the Sick and Homebound molded after the early Christian community practice of bringing Communion to those who were unable to gather with the community. The assembly prayed for those unable to be present and commissions its members to go forth and bring the Body of Christ to its absent members. In this tradition, when St. Mary’s Church ministers bring Communion, the sick or elderly person shares in the Eucharistic meal of the community, and holy Communion manifests the support and concern for its members who are not able to be present. If you are sick or homebound, it would be our privilege to share with you holy Communion. Please contact the church office at (815) 844-7683 or email [email protected]. |
Is any among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the Church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. ~ James 5:14
